Laurie Taylor explores the latest research into how society works.

Research has shown that health and social problems become more acute in an unequal society, where the gap between the richest and poorest is greatest. For most of us, respect is measured in money, and lack of it or low pay tells us that we are worth very little. But given the chance, would we as a society be prepared to rebalance?

Laurie Taylor discusses these issues with Professor Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett, authors of The Spirit Level: Why Equal Societies Almost Always So Better, and Sunder Katwala from The Fabian Society, on a new paper on underlying motivation.

Also teddy bears; how did a real hunting story become a political myth which left Theodore Roosevelt forever credited as the namesake of the teddy bear, symbolic of childhood innocence?

The following post is adapted from the new book “This Is Your Country On Drugs: The Secret History of Getting High in America.” The letter is published with the permission of the estate of LSD-inventor Albert Hofmann. For more on events related to the book, see the Facebook page or follow Ryan Grim on Twitter.

Steve Jobs has never been shy about his use of psychedelics, famously calling his LSD experience “one of the two or three most important things I have done in my life.” So, toward the end of his life, LSD inventor Albert Hofmann decided to write to the iPhone creator to see if he’d be interested in putting some money where the tip of his tongue had been.

Hofmann penned a never-before-disclosed letter in 2007 to Jobs at the behest of his friend Rick Doblin, who runs an organization dedicated to studying the medical and psychiatric benefits of psychedelic drugs. Hofmann, a Swiss chemist, died in April 2008 at the age of 102.

Part 2: – Blog Content

Today, we’re going to discuss the type of content that is suitable for your blog in order to make it profitable. First off, I want you to understand that there is no fixed scope that your blog should have, which means you can write about whatever you’re interested in.

However, the difference between a profitable blog and a non-profitable blog is the way the blog is written. Just imagine, would you prefer to read your university professor’s lecture notes or the latest novel by your favourite author?

You may prefer to read the novel because it appeals more to your interest, or because it is not as mind-numbing as the lecture notes by your professor. However, the most important point is people like to read “light” stuff most of the time. You see, when people log on to your blog, they are not only looking for information – they are also looking for information they can obtain easily, and better still in a relaxed manner.

So, to attract more visitors as well as to keep your current visitors coming back for more, it is very important to add a human touch to your blog posts. This can be done by simply imagining you’re talking about a certain topic with your personal friend. An extra bonus for your readers would be a great sense of humour, so try to add funny comments in your articles where they are suitable.  The New Money Making Blog with Money24Seven

My friend this story has been around for quite some time but it’s so simple
and powerful that I felt today was a great day to share it again for all who
have never seen it. Please feel free to forward it to those who mean the
most in your life…and know I too “Wish You Enough!” –David

I Wish You Enough! By Bob Perks

I never really thought that I’d spend as much time in airports as I do. I don’t
know why. I always wanted to be famous and that would mean lots of travel. But
I’m not famous, yet I do see more than my share of airports.

I love them and I hate them. I love them because of the people I get to watch.
But they are also the same reason why I hate airports. It all comes down to
“hello” and “goodbye.” I must have mentioned this a few times while writing
my stories for you.

I have great difficulties with saying goodbye. Even as I write this I am
experiencing that pounding sensation in my heart. If I am watching such a scene
in a movie I am affected so much that I need to sit up and take a few deep breaths.

So when faced with a challenge in my life I have been known to go to our local
airport and watch people say goodbye. I figure nothing that is happening to me
at the time could be as bad as having to say goodbye.

Watching people cling to each other, crying, and holding each other in that last
embrace makes me appreciate what I have even more.

Seeing them finally pull apart, extending their arms until the tips of their fingers
are the last to let go, is an image that stays forefront in my mind throughout the
day.

On one of my recent business trips, when I arrived at the counter to check in, the
woman said, “How are you today?” I replied, “I am missing my wife already and I
haven’t even said goodbye.”

She then looked at my ticket and began to ask, “How long will you…Oh, my God.
You will only be gone three days!” We all laughed. My problem was I still had to
say goodbye. But I learn from goodbye moments, too.

Recently I overheard a father and daughter in their last moments together. They
had announced her departure and standing near the security gate, they hugged and
he said, “I love you. I wish you enough.” She in turn said, “Daddy, our life
together has been more than enough.

Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Daddy.” They kissed and
she left. He walked over toward the window where I was seated. Standing there I
could see he wanted and needed to cry.

I tried not to intrude on his privacy, but he welcomed me in by asking, “Did you
ever say goodbye to someone knowing it would be forever?”

“Yes, I have,” I replied. Saying that brought back memories I had of expressing
my love and appreciation for all my Dad had done for me. Recognizing that his
days were limited, I took the time to tell him face to face how much he meant
to me. so I knew what this man experiencing.

“Forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever goodbye?” I asked.

“I am old and she lives much too far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality
is, the next trip back would be for my funeral,” he said.

“When you were saying goodbye I heard you say, “I wish you enough.”
May I ask what that means?”

He began to smile. “That’s a wish that has been handed down from other generations.
My parents used to say it to everyone.”

He paused for a moment and looking up as if trying to remember it in detail,
he smiled even more. “When we said ‘I wish you enough, ‘we were wanting the
other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them,”
he continued and then turning toward me he shared the following as if he were
reciting it from memory.

“I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.

I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.

I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.

I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.

I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.

I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.

I wish enough “Hello’s” to get you through the final “Goodbye.”

He then began to sob and walked away. My friends, I wish you enough!

Cambridge University geneticist Aubrey de Grey has famously stated, “The first person to live to be 1,000 years old is certainly alive today …whether they realize it or not, barring accidents and suicide, most people now 40 years or younger can expect to live for centuries.

”Perhaps de Gray is way too optimistic, but plenty of others have joined the search for a virtual fountain of youth. In fact, a growing number of scientists, doctors, geneticists and nanotech experts—many with impeccable academic credentials—are insisting that there is no hard reason why ageing can’t be dramatically slowed or prevented altogether. Not only is it theoretically possible, they argue, but a scientifically achievable goal that can and should be reached in time to benefit those alive today.

“I am working on immortality,” says Michael Rose, a professor of evolutionary biology at the University of California, Irvine, who has achieved breakthrough results extending the lives of fruit flies. “Twenty years ago the idea of postponing aging, let alone reversing it, was weird and off-the-wall. Today there are good reasons for thinking it is fundamentally possible.”
